My Trip to Germany

"Tuesday, June 22, 2004"

The plane landed in Frankfurt at 1:00am Philly time, 7:00am local time. We went through customs really fast and then we got our bags. We then went to the train station and caught the 7:53am train to Karlsruhe. The train arrived in Karlsruhe at 9:00am. From the train station we took a cab to the Dorint Congress-Hotel Karlsruhe, where we were staying. On the way to the hotel, an exciting thing happened. We saw a fire truck going down the street. It stopped right next to the taxi, on the side of a road next to a building. We saw three firefighters with air masks and rolls of hoses jump out and go into the building. Since the road was now blocked, we had to turn around and go another way. Due to this, our fare cost a lot more. When we finally got to the hotel, we checked in, Daddy worked on the computer a little bit, and at 10:00am we went to bed for a nap.

When we finally woke up at 3:00pm, we went over to the conference building to see how the setup was going. We then went for a walk with a man named Jeroen, who was one of the Postgres team. First, we went to the town square, then we decided to go to the palace. It was really big and it looked kind of like Buckingham Palace. Then we started walking back. On the side of the street we saw a Chinese place. We got some food and sat down to eat at one of the tables that were on the sidewalk. It was sunny, but there was an umbrella over the table. There were many trains but few cars in the city, making it very peaceful. After we ate, we went to the conference center and stayed there for a little while, then went back to the hotel. At the hotel we watched a Twilight Zone, then Daddy went back to the conference center to help setup. I stayed back and watched another Twilight Zone, then played a little of my new game, Riddle of the Sphinx, but I didn't like it a lot. Then Daddy came back and he played some Medal of Honor. Part of the time I read FoxTrot, and part of it I watched him. Then we tried the Secret Service game. It didn't even work. After that we went back to the conference center again. Daddy talked to some people and I saw a new Pocket PC. Then we went for a late dinner at 11:30pm. After we ate we returned to the hotel and finally, at 12:30am, went to bed.

"Wednesday, June 23, 2004"

This morning I woke up at 11:30am. Daddy had a wake-up for 8:30, but I was still sleeping at that time. When I woke up, I got dressed and headed over to the conference. The conference center was only a short walk across a big square plaza next to the hotel. I said hi to Daddy, then I went over to the WorldForge booth. They are the people who make first person video and computer games. I played in a world

that was under construction and I saw them making and changing the world. It was really cool. Then me and Daddy went to lunch. They had a place to eat inside the conference center. I got bow-tie macaroni with red sauce and Daddy got a long German sausage. It was really good. After that I went back to the WorldForge booth for a little while. A little later, Daddy and I went to the hotel to go potty. After we went potty, we watched a Twilight Zone. Then Daddy went back to the conference while I stayed behind and watched another Twilight Zone. After Daddy came back, he took a one hour nap while I read FoxTrot. When he woke up, we had dinner at the bar across the street. I had spareribs, which I shared with Daddy, and he got chili. Then, at 9:00pm, we went back to the hotel. When we got back, Daddy and I some played Medal of Honor. I helped him by telling him where to go and assisting him on what to do. At 10:15pm, we stopped playing and started getting ready for bed. At 12:00am, we went to bed. Tomorrow is another busy day.

"Thursday, June 24, 2004"

Today I woke up at 9:45am. I got dressed and headed over to the conference at 10:00am. When I got there I talked with Daddy for a little while, then went over to the WorldForge booth again. At 2:15pm, I went to the hotel and watched a Twilight Zone. At 2:45pm, Daddy came over to the hotel and we went to lunch at a Mediterranean place across the street. Two of the other exhibitors at the conference were there. I had shish kebab. It was really good. From 4:15pm 4:45pm Daddy was at the conference. When he came back, we talked to Mommy for a little while then he looked for new computer games on the Internet. From 6:45pm-8:00pm, we played some Medal of Honor. At 8:15, we went out for a walk. We ate at an Indian place. The food was really good. Then we walked back to the hotel by a long route. On the way we got ice cream. At 9:45pm, we got back to the hotel. I got ready for bed. Then we talked to Mommy on chat for a while. She was having trouble heating the spa so we had to try to help her. Then, finally, at 1:30am, we went to bed. Tomorrow, Daddy will make his speech.

"Friday, June 25, 2004"

Today, Daddy and I woke up at 11:15am. We had set a wake-up for 10:00am, but it didn't work. Then Daddy got dressed, and at 10:30am went to the conference. I stayed behind and from 11:30-12:45pm, I played some Falcon. Then, at 12:45pm, Daddy came back to the hotel to get the laptop for his 1:30pm talk. At that time I got dressed and went with Daddy to the conference. At 1:20pm, we were in the auditorium where Daddy was going to give his talk. However, there was a small problem. No one had yet arrived to turn on the microphone and hook up the projector. However, we got them

both working with little hassle and Daddy started his talk promptly at 1:30pm. The subject of his talk was "How to Explain Open-Source to Someone With Little or No Computer Knowledge". The talk was 1h20m long and was really good. After the talk we went to the conference center cafeteria to have lunch. I had ziti and sauce. After we ate, I went back to the hotel and brought the laptop to the conference. I went to the cafeteria and played Falcon there for a while. After that I went to the WorldForge booth and stayed there for a while. The WorldForge team was competing against the booth next-door in a Allies-vs-Axis game. WorldForge, which were the Allies, won all three battles. After I left the WorldForge booth, Daddy and I went back to the hotel. I watched a Twilight Zone while Daddy took a nap. At 7:15pm, Daddy and I started playing Medal of Honor. At 8:00pm, we got on a LinuxTAG rented bus to go to a pool party that was happening nearby. When we got there, there was a huge line of people waiting to get food. We decided not to eat here and were about to leave when the head of a large company supporting Postgres (Credativ) walked up to Daddy and started talking with him. After about an hour of talking, at 10:00pm, we went to get on the bus. When we got back to the hotel, at 10:15pm, we went to eat at the Mediterranean place we ate at yesterday. I had the same thing I had yesterday. When we got back to the hotel at, 11:00pm, we packed up and, at 11:30pm, we went to bed.

"Saturday, June 26, 2004"

Today was a very exciting day. Yesterday night we had set an 8:30am wakeup. Unfortunately, the wakeup didn't work. When I woke up at 10:00am, I was still tired so I got confused about the time. I was about to go back to sleep when I realized that it was 10:00am! I jumped out of bed, shook Daddy, and yelled, "It's 10:00 o'clock!" I have never seen Daddy get out of bed so fast. Working at full speed, we were packed and dressed by 10:30am, giving us 30 precious minutes to catch the 11:00am train. We brought the suitcase down to the front desk, left it there, and quickly ran over the conference center to say bye. Within 10min, we were on a taxi. The taxi got us to the train station at 10:50am. We jumped out and ran inside. We went to the ticket machine and we tried to figure out which stop to go to. I told Daddy that Frankfurt Flugh must be the stop, because flughtsoyg is airplane. We quickly bought the tickets and ran to the platform. The train got there 5min early, at 10:55am. At 11:00am, the train started for the airport. We got to the airport at 12:05am. We got out of the train and went into the airport. There was a sign telling us which airlines were in which terminals. We took a bus to terminal two, and we checked in at the Armavia desk. Then we went through customs and security, and then we finally got to the gate. We then went shopping in the airport a little bit. We got a tree ornament for Mommy and a Polo shirt for me.

Then we went to a convenience store. I got a tuna fish sandwich and chips and water. Then we went to the gate to get on the bus that would take us to the plane. I was amazed that everyone around was speaking Armenian. We got on the plane via a stairway on the side of the plane and, at 2:50, 30min later then scheduled, the plane took off. On the plane, I first read one of my books, then I played some Falcon. After that, I ate my meal and then Daddy and I played some Medal of Honor. We put away the laptop when we were getting close to landing, and at 9:45pm local time, the plane landed.
